Tabby Tree Weaver / 107 E. Main St / Arcadia, IN 46030 (317) 984-5475
One of the classes offered at Tabby Tree is an Easy Jacket Class. This is a class for those with
narrow width looms that want
to weave fabric and for those weavers who don't like to sew.
The students learned lots of new techniques including the value
of a sample and winding on a
warp with different stretch yarns. The jacket in these pictures is made with Harrisville Highland
in
the warp except for the stripes. Some of the stripes are made with mohair with a nylon core
and others are made with a variegated
orange wool from Yarn Hollow - a softer yarn than the
Harrisville.
The weft is Jaggerspun 8/3 Main Line. Once woven the
material was washed in the washer
being careful to keep the temperature of the water the same for the wash and rinse. I let it
run a
full cycle and then tossed in the dryer. I removed from the dryer while slightly damp. It fulled
nicely and shrank
approximately 19%. I had counted on about 17%. The hand was very nice
and not too heavy.
Moral of the story:
Sample and be consistent in your washing & drying techniques.
